Stress Management: Dealing
with Stressful Situations at Work
Stress at work can wreak
havoc on other aspects of your life. When you are stressed at
work, you usually take it home with you, too. By doing this,
stress becomes a part of your personal life. It can affect your
relationships with your family and your friends. You need to
develop a stress management program for the workplace.
Stressful situations at work include dealing
with co-workers who have their own agendas and do not want to
be fair with you. Try to remain calm. Think about what you need
to get your job done. Take a deep breath. Complete your tasks.
Deal with each situation as it arises. It is more manageable
when you deal with it on the spot. Leave the stress
at the office.
Dealing with clients and customers brings a
different type of stress. You cannot be rude. You have to deal
with them in a professional way. Determine the problem and
resolve it. Then take in a deep breath and exhale.
If you have a situation that appears to be
getting out of hand, find a way to excuse yourself. You start
to manage your stress when you do this. Go back to your office,
to the restroom, or a quiet corner. Take a few deep breaths -
inhaling and exhaling. When you are back in control, deal with
the situation.
Stress is not healthy if you can't control it.
You have to find ways to deal with situations do you don't lose
control or become overwhelmed. Determine what works best for
you. Leave work situations at work.
On your way home, listen to the radio or a CD.
Music is soothing in stressful situations. Add it to your
stress management program.
